Walking tours in the city have become one of the best ways to explore a city among travelers. This is true even for the pink city. While doing walking tours in Jaipur, I often see newbie guides leading the tours. They don’t have enough experience and sometimes their conduct puts travelers and tourists in jeopardy. It is not entirely their fault. But as a leader, they are definitely responsible for the safety of the people in his or her group. This prompted me to write this article about Jaipur walking tour safety tips. I’m sharing a few safety tips for a walking tour in Jaipur for travelers.

Stay Alert During A Walking Tour in Jaipur

Staying alert during a walking tour in Jaipur is the most important safety tip. Areas where Jaipur walking tours are conducted are very busy. During work hours, it is a buzzing market. Naturally, this means it is full of people with little space for walking. Travelers should watch where they are stepping. Many travelers are surprised to find the streets are not as clean as other cities in the world or with uneven roads. It is best to embrace this reality while doing a walking tour in Jaipur. The sidewalks are often full of street vendors. An important question some travelers ask is if the area where the walking tour in Jaipur takes place is safe? In general Jaipur is safe with very few instances of mugging, attacks, or thefts with travelers. When it comes to safety, Jaipur Retold walking tour prefers safe routes. We do not operate in unsafe areas. We constantly monitor our routes to ensure the streets and roads are safe for travelers. We will ensure the route does not include roads with ongoing construction or any other safety hazard.

Roads and Streets in Jaipur

Crossing the roads or street is a difficult skill for many travelers. A major reason for this is that such conditions do not exist back home for such travelers. In India however, there is far too much traffic on the road in comparison; there is a variety of transport modes with varying speeds. The concept of Zebra crossing or crosswalk on Jaipur roads hardly exists; even if it does, drivers ignore its existence. This creates a problem for travelers when traversing through traffic and also a safety hazard during the walking tour in Jaipur. What do I recommend? Let your walk leader know how you prefer to cross the street or road. A good walk leader will help you navigate the roads in the safest way.

Your belongings

Be careful with your belongings. Jaipur doesn’t have a reputation as a city with many pick pockets or theft issues. However, travelers should ensure the safety of their belongings. To enjoy a walking tour in Jaipur safely, I suggest carrying just one bag; backpack, fanny bag, crossbody bags are some of the best bags to carry your belongings. The best bags are the ones which keep your hands free. This will also allow you to focus on enjoying the tour and with free hands you can use your phone or camera in an optimum way.

Monkeys in Jaipur

You can spot many monkeys on Jaipur streets in the walled city area or the old Jaipur city. In general, the monkeys are harmless; the exceptions are provocation or carrying edible items. The residents of Jaipur follow the tradition of feeding monkeys with bananas or other items like peanuts etc. Therefore monkeys exhibit aggressive behaviour when they find edible items not offered to them. It is advisable to carry edible things in your bag.

Jaipur Walk Leader

It is advisable to reach out to your walk leader if you have any issues, questions, or problems. During the walking tour you will be approached by many shop owners and salesman inviting to their shops. If you do intend to shop, click the picture of the shop for reference so you can visit after the tour ends. If your tour leader recommends or stops at specific shops so you can do shopping, it is not always a good idea. Few walking leaders in Jaipur gain monetarily through commissions or kickbacks. Think twice before you shop at such places.
